Troubleshooting Proxy Connection Issues
Common problems and solutions to help you get your SP5Proxies connection working smoothly.
Issue: Cannot Connect to Proxy
If you're unable to establish a connection to the proxy server, try these solutions:
Verify Your Credentials
Double-check your username and password in the dashboard. Credentials are case-sensitive. Copy and paste them directly to avoid typos.
Check Port Numbers
Ensure you're using the correct port: 1080 for SOCKS5 or 8080 for HTTP. Some networks block these ports.
Verify Subscription Status
Log in to your dashboard and check if your subscription is active. Expired subscriptions will result in connection failures.
Firewall/Antivirus Check
Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus to test. If it works, add an exception for your proxy application.
Issue: Slow Connection Speed
Experiencing slower than expected speeds? Here's how to optimize:
Choose a Closer Server
Select a proxy server location closer to your physical location. Shorter distances mean lower latency and faster speeds.
Check Your Base Connection
Test your internet speed without the proxy. If your base connection is slow, the proxy cannot improve it.
Use SOCKS5 Instead of HTTP
SOCKS5 generally offers better performance than HTTP proxies. Switch to SOCKS5 if you're currently using HTTP.
Try a Different Server
Some servers may be more congested than others. Use the "Change Location" feature in your dashboard to switch servers.
Issue: Proxy Works But IP Leaks
If websites are still detecting your real IP despite using a proxy:
Disable WebRTC
WebRTC can leak your real IP. Install a WebRTC blocker extension or disable it in your browser settings. In Firefox: about:config → media.peerconnection.enabled → false
Check DNS Settings
DNS leaks can reveal your location. Use "Remote DNS" option in your proxy settings if available, or configure DNS-over-HTTPS.
Use an Antidetect Browser
For maximum anonymity, use an antidetect browser like AdsPower or Dolphin Anty. See our antidetect browser guide.
Clear Browser Cache
Cached data might contain your old IP. Clear your browser cache and cookies before testing with the proxy.
Issue: Specific Website/App Not Working
Some websites or applications may not work properly with proxies:
Banking & Financial Sites
Many banking sites block proxy connections for security. You may need to disable the proxy for these sites or whitelist them.
Streaming Services
Some streaming services actively block datacenter IPs. Try using our residential proxy options for better compatibility.
Gaming Platforms
For gaming, ensure you're using SOCKS5 and select a server close to the game's servers for optimal latency.
